Contouring & Reshaping

Contouring and reshaping is one of the simplest cosmetic procedures we offer. Dr. Lee removes small amounts of enamel to smooth out rough edges, even out uneven teeth, or adjust the shape of a tooth that doesn't quite match the rest. It's subtle work that makes a noticeable difference.

Contouring & Reshaping

What It Fixes

This procedure works well for teeth with small chips or rough edges, slightly overlapping front teeth that just need minor adjustment, teeth that are a little longer or more pointed than their neighbors, or uneven surfaces that catch your eye when you smile.

It's not the right fit for major alignment issues or significant damage. For those situations, Invisalign, bonding, or veneers are better options. But for small refinements, contouring gets the job done quickly and painlessly.

What to Expect

Dr. Lee uses fine dental instruments to carefully remove tiny amounts of enamel and sculpt the tooth into a more even shape. No anesthesia is needed because only the surface layer is involved. The tooth is then smoothed and polished.

The whole procedure usually takes 15 to 30 minutes depending on how many teeth are being adjusted. Results are immediate. There's no recovery time and no sensitivity afterward. You walk out with a more refined smile the same day.

Contouring is often combined with bonding for a more complete result. Bonding adds material where it's needed while contouring removes it. Together they can reshape a tooth from every angle in a single visit.

No. Only a very thin layer of enamel is removed. Dr. Lee evaluates each tooth beforehand to make sure there's enough enamel to work with safely.

They're complementary but different. Contouring removes enamel to reshape. Bonding adds composite resin to build up or fill in. They're often done together in the same visit for the best result.

Permanently. Once enamel is removed and the tooth is reshaped, it stays that way. There's nothing that wears off or needs redoing.
