Dental Implants

Dental implants are the gold standard for replacing missing teeth. Unlike dentures or bridges, an implant replaces the entire tooth from root to crown. A titanium post fuses with your jawbone, creating a foundation that's as strong as what nature gave you. Dr. Lee provides implant services from consultation through final restoration.

How Implants Work

A dental implant has three parts: a titanium post that goes into your jawbone and acts as an artificial root, an abutment that connects the post to the restoration, and a custom crown, bridge, or denture that sits on top.

After the post is placed, your jawbone gradually fuses with the titanium over 3 to 6 months through a process called osseointegration. That creates an incredibly strong foundation. Once healed, the abutment and crown are attached.

The result looks, feels, and functions like a real tooth. You brush and floss it normally, eat whatever you want, and never worry about slipping or shifting.

Single Tooth, Multiple Teeth, or Full Arch

Implants are versatile. They can replace a single missing tooth with one implant and crown, several adjacent teeth with an implant-supported bridge, or an entire arch with an All-on-4 or similar full-arch solution.

If you currently wear dentures and are tired of adhesives, slipping, and food restrictions, implant-supported dentures are a significant upgrade. Permanent teeth that snap onto implant posts and can be brushed like natural teeth.

Dr. Lee evaluates your bone density, gum health, and overall oral condition to determine the best approach. If bone grafting is needed to support the implant, he'll discuss that upfront.

Is It Worth the Investment

Implants cost more upfront than bridges or dentures, but they last significantly longer. The post itself can last a lifetime with proper care. The crown on top typically lasts 10 to 15 years before needing replacement.

Beyond longevity, implants preserve your jawbone. When a tooth is missing, the bone underneath starts to deteriorate. An implant stimulates the bone the same way a natural root does, preventing the facial changes that come with bone loss over time.

Most patients who get implants say the same thing: they wish they'd done it sooner.

Most healthy adults are. You need enough jawbone density to support the implant. If bone loss has occurred, bone grafting can often rebuild what's needed. Conditions like uncontrolled diabetes or heavy smoking may need to be addressed first since they affect healing.

The titanium post can last a lifetime with good care. The crown on top typically lasts 10 to 15 years before it may need replacing. Regular checkups and good hygiene are key.

It's done under local anesthesia, so you won't feel pain during placement. Most patients report less discomfort than they expected afterward, often comparing it to having a tooth pulled. Over-the-counter pain medication handles it for the first few days.

From implant placement to final crown, the process typically takes 3 to 6 months. Most of that time is healing while the implant fuses with your bone. The actual appointments are relatively short.
