Cavity Treatment

Cavities are one of the most common dental issues we treat and one of the most preventable. When decay breaks through your enamel, it creates a hole that only grows if left alone. Catching it early means a quick, simple fix. We use tooth-colored composite fillings that blend with your natural teeth so nobody can tell the difference.

How Cavities Form

Bacteria in your mouth feed on sugars from food and drinks, producing acids that slowly dissolve your enamel. Over time, the mineral loss creates a weak spot that becomes a cavity. You might not feel anything at first, which is why regular checkups matter. By the time a cavity causes pain, it's usually bigger than it needed to be.

Things that increase your risk include frequent snacking, sugary or acidic drinks throughout the day, dry mouth, inconsistent brushing or flossing, and skipping dental visits. Kids and older adults tend to be especially prone, but cavities can happen to anyone.

What to Expect During Treatment

Dr. Lee numbs the area so you won't feel anything during the procedure. He carefully removes the decayed portion of the tooth, cleans what's left, and fills it with composite resin. The filling is applied in layers, shaped to match the natural contours of your tooth, and hardened with a curing light. Then he adjusts your bite and polishes it smooth.

The whole process typically takes under an hour per tooth. You can eat normally once the numbness wears off. If you've been putting off a filling because you're nervous, let us know. We offer nitrous oxide and take extra care to make sure you're comfortable.

Many cavities don't cause symptoms early on, which is why regular exams are important. As one grows, you might notice sensitivity to hot, cold, or sweet foods, visible holes or dark spots, or a mild toothache. If you're experiencing any of that, schedule an appointment. The sooner we catch it, the simpler the fix.

No. The area is numbed completely before we start. Some patients feel mild sensitivity for a day or two afterward, but it resolves on its own. We also offer nitrous oxide for patients who want extra comfort.

Composite fillings typically last 7 to 15 years with proper care. Good hygiene, regular checkups, and avoiding habits like chewing ice or grinding your teeth help them last as long as possible.
