Oral Cancer Screenings
Oral cancer screening is a quick, painless exam that Dr. Lee performs as part of every routine checkup. It takes just a few minutes and could catch something that saves your life. When detected early, oral cancer has a survival rate above 80%. When caught late, that number drops significantly.

What's Involved
Dr. Lee visually examines your lips, tongue, cheeks, gums, throat, and the roof and floor of your mouth for any unusual patches, sores, lumps, or discoloration. He also feels the tissues for anything abnormal. The whole screening takes 2 to 3 minutes and is done during your regular exam at no extra charge.
You won't need to do anything to prepare. It's completely non-invasive and most patients don't even realize it's happening as a separate step.
Who's at Risk
Certain factors increase your risk: tobacco use in any form, heavy alcohol consumption, HPV infection, excessive sun exposure to the lips, family history of cancer, and age (most cases occur after 55, though HPV-related oral cancers are showing up in younger adults more frequently).
That said, about 25% of oral cancer cases occur in people with no known risk factors. That's why we screen everyone, every visit, regardless of age or history.
